Jubilee House Children’s Short Break Service operates from Peartree Short Break Centre. Peartree is a large, purpose built modern bungalow set in a residential area of Welwyn Garden City.

The service provides short break care for approximately 65 children and young people from the ages of 5 to 19.The Peartree Respite Centre can accommodate up to five children for planned breaks for a period of one night to a maximum of three weeks.

The Children’s Short Break Service is delivered by a professional staff team operating in an excellent environment, which enables the service to cater for the needs of children and young people with a variety of learning disabilities from low care needs to very complex and profound learning disabilities.

Peartree Short Break Centre is fully accessible to children and young people with severe mobility problems and is fitted with specialist equipment such as overhead tracking, sensory epilepsy monitoring system, height adjustable baths and beds.

The centre has been decorated and furnished with the best interests of the children and young people in mind and some of the many facilities include a specially designed, fully equipped sensory room, soft play area as well as cheerful well equipped living areas and spacious bedrooms.

The garden is secluded and well designed with a swing, sandpit, and outdoor eating areas.

The building and grounds are very secure with an internal security system.

The staff team provides a wide range of opportunities for social interaction, individual and group leisure activities and private time. The service also has several vehicles, which enable outings and daytrips to take place. At all times, however, the staff are sensitive and respectful of the individual’s right to choose.

Jubilee House recognises and respects the benefits of respite care for both the service users and their families and we look to maximise these benefits to families through a sensitive, professional and respectful relationship designed to build and maintain confidence in the service.

Through the booking process we aim to meet family and individual requirements whilst maintaining our flexibility to cater for unexpected changes and emergency situations.

The Centre is staffed 24hrs and staffing levels relate directly to the bookings and the pre determined care needs of those using the service at any one time.

One member of staff sleeps in each night and is supported by a Waking Night member of staff.
