Family Support Services

Siblings Groups

The siblings groups were developed in recognition of the many pressures associated with having a sibling with a learning disability.

Designed to provide the opportunity for ‘siblings’ to meet , share experiences and spend time together they are predominantly activity based groups.

Swimming, cinema and museums have all been on the itinerary and all the children have really enjoyed the experience.

The children themselves have recognised the benefits of peer support and have expressed that they would like to do more activities with other siblings. We are confident that friendships continue when the groups are finished.

It is our intention to build on these groups providing a learning environment where siblings can;-
  • Develop coping strategies and gain confidence to recognise when things are difficult and ask for help when they need it.
  • Gain a greater understanding of their brother or sister conditions and there consequences.
  • Have their feeling acknowledged and more opportunities to talk about them.

If you feel that your child would benefit from attending a siblings group please contact sam.perry@jubileehouse.com

Currently the service is for children, however if you feel that you may benefit from attending an adult group please contact amanda.mair@jubileehouse.com
